George Wilkin (b.1990) is a British artist working in London, England. Her interest in beauty and desire began whilst working in the fashion industry as a teenager, first as a fashion model and later as an assistant at Conde Nast’s LOVE magazine. Working under editor-in-chief Katie Grand, she discovered the art of story creation - learning how visual media shapes our imagination and curates our environment.
In 2009 she visited Mythologies at Haunch of Venison gallery, where she discovered the work of YBA Mat Collishaw. An apprenticeship at Collishaw’s studio introduced her to the art world and developed into an assistant role at his London studio. Helping to run the studio as well as working on special projects, Wilkin developed a love for painting. She graduated from Camberwell College of Art in 2019, and decided to dedicate herself to painting. Eschewing pressure to exhibit immediately, she committed to developing her practice away from London.
The soart residency programme in Millstatt, Austria 2025 reignited a desire to engage in further art programmes. Upon returning she was granted a position at Sarabande, London, where she is currently artist in residence. Set up by the late Lee Alexander McQueen, the Foundation provides artists with studio space and scholarships, underpinned by a dedicated approach to furthering its artist’s careers over the course of their lives.
