Kevin Hopkins [b. 2000, Beaufort, SC, USA] is a painter whose practice explores themes of belonging, survival, and imagination, contextualized within the Black American experience. By weaving together his Lowcountry upbringing and pop-cultural influences, Hopkins' work contributes to a diasporic search for pathways to healing as he imagines liberated realities and charts strategies for their actualization.
Hopkins holds a BFA in Painting from the Kansas City Art Institute (2023) and an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University (2026). His work has been recognized with numerous honors, including the 2025 Cy Twombly Award from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, selection as a finalist for the 2025 Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition, three grants from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, and, most recently, a fellowship in NXTHVN's eighth cohort.
